Acoustic Drums + Electronic Drums = Fun!

Not much to report here when it’s a busy week of gigging.

So this week I have gigs from Wednesday through Sunday, one piano gig and the remainder are drumming gigs.

Speaking of drumming gigs… I think the groups I perform in are getting spoiled with the triggers, which allow me to play both acoustic drums and electronic drums at the same time.

This is advantageous to me, as the electronic drums and triggers allow me to play naturally and dynamically, without having to over-play and just play loud. Also, it’s easier on my ears as well as my body.

But also, acoustic drums + electronic drums gives out a much fuller sound, as if my drums are mic’ed but it’s the triggers that are triggering the electronic drum module.

Recently, I acquired a nice Allen & Heath passive mixer (with EFX), and a nice Behringer rack-mount Graphic Equalizer. These two seem like overkill, but it allows me to fine tune the drum sounds before they get to the powered speaker.

It’s much more work bringing the acoustic drum set plus the electronics, but well worth it. I can tell that the audience and my fellow musicians are excited about the sound.
