The Existence of Auras

I was reading Alex of technicolor.org yesterday and pondered over something she had written:

When two separate people within one week sit across from you at a restaurant and tell you you are either “radiant” or “glowing,” you’ve got to start wondering if maybe it is biological and not metaphorical. If, maybe, you phosphoresce like a deep-sea jellyfish.

Glowing and Radiant

Sometime late last year, though I can not for the life of me remember the exact date, I was at a home furnishing store and my wife and I were at the checkout counter when I spotted a young woman in line also getting ready to purchase some items.

Suddenly I noticed that she was glowing and radiant, and it was not so much the fact that she was quite attractive, but there seemed to be this brilliant glow about her that I couldn’t quite figure out.

The colours I saw were a sort of subtle yellowish, golden sort of hue, and there appeared to be subtle rays that emanated above her head, a few on each side around her shoulders.

A Figment of my Imagination?

I thought the whole thing was a figment of my imagination, perhaps, or was due to the lighting, but it was only this woman who seemed to radiate a certain way. And I was compelled to think this young woman was saintly, for lack of a better word.

Then I started thinking about auras and how each human is supposed to have an aura, some more brilliant than others. Evidence in photos have pointed out that auras exist. I saw one photo long ago of an amputee and I’m not sure if it was a heat-sensitive photographic exposure, but it showed a faint glow of a hand where the person’s real hand used to be.

A Possible Yogic Connection

Anyways, at the time I had seen the glowing and radiant woman, I had just gotten into the routine of practicing yoga every single day without fail for a few months. So, one theory (and this is only playful theorizing on my part) that my yoga practice had made me become more aware on a more sensitive, subtle level, and if I did have some ability in seeing someone’s aura, especially one whose aura was brilliant, then that would be my reasoning. Already, I had noticed that my musical abilities had improved and my concentration had improved as well, so perhaps it is possible that I could notice things slightly out-of-the-ordinary. One must at the very least wonder about the possibility of things outside of our realm of day-to-day sensory experiences.

Alas, I’ve not had another experience like it since then. But I have thought I had seen the aura of inanimate objects, supposedly since they are supposed to exist in non-living things as well, but have reasoned it away as a figment of my imagination.

Auras Do Exist

Well, many skeptics just seem to lop all this theorizing about auras into the whole New Age-y group of things that border on the wacky and far-out. But, I truly (based on what I thought I had experienced) believe in the possibility of some kind of electromagnetic, biological explanation that auras do exist, since humans are full of electrical current that courses throughout our bodies and it simply is that life energy that keeps us… well… alive.
