Carlos Santana: Europa

This is one of the best versions of “Europa” I’ve checked out on YouTube. Here is Carlos Santana and band “live” in Montreaux, Switzerland, 1980.

The only other musicians I recognize are a young Graham Lear on drums, Raul Rekow on congas, and the great Armando Peraza on congas and percussion.

Carlos Santana has the gifted ability to make his instrument truly sing, and cry. And Europa is one of my favorites from Santana. I’ll have to remember to play this on piano next time.

Barron: Yes, amazing stuff that’s probably looking quite vintage nowadays and shows my age. But, yes this is great, classic stuff. Carlos Santana can definitely “emote” through his instrument. He is a gifted and unique guitarist. Anyone can recognize his sound anywhere. The sign of a true artist.
