The Human League - Human

Anyone remember this song from the 80s? This is one of my favorites!
Worried by the lack of progress with their most profitable act, Virgin paired The Human League up with American R&B producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who had a proven track record with Janet Jackson and Prince. Jam and Lewis had expressed an interest in working with the band after hearing their U.S. releases. Virgin flew the entire band to Minneapolis. The four-month-long recording sessions were beset with creative disputes, with Jam and Lewis having preconceived ideas on how they wanted the album to sound, rejecting most of the band’s material (which would cost the band considerable loss of royalty income). The band eventually quit the sessions early amidst creative acrimony, although the personal relationships had actually been good.
The final result of the sessions was the Crash album. The album featured much material written by the Jam and Lewis’ team, and showcased their DX7-led sound. It provided a US no.1 single, “Human” (no.8 in the UK)…
Tina Fey Meets Sarah Palin on SNL!

Another great performance by Tina Fey once again as Alaska Governor Sarah Palin!
But the big twist was the presence of the REAL Sarah Palin making her first appearance on the show.
It was funny and somewhat surreal at the same time. And supposedly SNL’s ratings for this much anticipated show drew the most viewers. The best ratings in 14 years.
Anyway, that was a pretty weird meeting between Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin and the REAL Sarah Palin. They avoided each other while they passed each other onstage, as if two parallel universes would’ve collided if there was any sort of actual contact. Bizarre, yet hilarious!
Amy Poehler: Rap For Palin

I’m rollin’ from head to toe with laughter this morning, watching this SNL Rap For Palin! Kudos to Amy Poehler for doing a great job on it, while 10 months pregnant? Yep, I heard she’s like a month overdue!
And hats off to Governor Sarah Palin for being a good sport and actually appearing on SNL to meet her comedic match, the lovely and talented Tina Fey.
Sarah Palin Rap Lyrics courtesy of TKBB:

(super cold)

all the plumbers in the house pull your pants up
all the plumbers in the house pull your pants up
when i say ‘obama’ you say ‘ayers’
obama. (ayers) obama (ayers)
i built me a bridge - it ain’t goin’ nowhere.
(ohhh)
mccain, palin, gonna put the nail in the coffin
of the media elite
(she likes red meat)
shoot a mother-humpin moose, eight days of the week
[three gunshots]
now ya dead, now ya dead,
cause i’m an animal, and i’m bigger than you
holdin a shotgun walk in the pub
everybody party, we’re goin on a hunt
la la la la la la la la
[six gunshots]
yo i’m palin, i’m out!
The Magibon Phenomena

Magibon (aka MRirian) is a young American woman from Pennsylvania who “speaks” Japanese and is a big fan of Japanese culture. She became an internet celebrity, is the most-viewed person on Japanese YouTube, and her videos have received millions upon millions of hits:
The first time I’d seen one of her videos, I immediately thought to myself, “hmm… a living, breathing anime character!” And in most of her short videos, she just stares quietly into the camera, makes googly eyes, and ends by giving the peace sign.
Here’s a video that attempts to explain the whole Magibon Phenomena.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Zannah’s blog - #!/usr/bin/girl (since the late 1990’s). Here she is testing the new video feature on flickr.com (as she goes through the Starbucks 24 hour drive-thru. Zannah is an “interent rock star”:
Mariah Carey: Touch My Body

I’m not a big Mariah Carey fan, but have always considered her a great vocalist, and I thought one of her latest tunes and video was worthy of a mention. I watched her perform “Touch My Body” last night on Saturday Night Live.
It’s different. The tune is catchy. And is that really her home because the place is HUGE!
The song doesn’t really showcase her vocal skillz a whole lot, but you can tell she can still sing. And she looks like she lost some weight and looking lean and mean. Way to go, Mariah!
My son mentioned this song last night too, and got a kick out of this line:
Cuz if you run your mouth and brag about this secret rendezvous
I will hunt you down
O—kay….
