Dr. Ellsworth Wareham (born October 3, 1914) is a centenarian from Loma Linda, California… Wareham retired as a cardiothoracic surgeon at the age of 74 but continued to associate himself with training residents at the Loma Linda University until the age of 95 during which time he drove 60 miles to assist in operations.
Meet Dr. Ellsworth Wareham: A Vegan Role Model at 104
Someone who is not a vegan (and highly skeptical of the vegan lifestyle) once said that they’ve never heard of vegans living to be a hundred or more. Well, Dr. Ellsworth Wareham has attained the age of 104 and he seems healthy, still mows his lawn, hustles up and down his stairs, is mentally competent, and still drives his car!
He continues to prove that the vegan diet is sustainable for the long run where other diets like a no-carb, high protein (as in animal foods) have failed. And, the standard American diet (SAD) continues to be responsible for chronic diseases among millions of Americans.
There needs to be a drastic change in the way we eat and the whole philosophy behind nutrition. And of course, we need to call out the Protein Myth for what it truly is, a myth!
Dr. Ellsworth Wareham: Proving That Vegan Works
Dr. Ellsworth Wareham is one of my role models from the Vegan Movement. He’s a retired heart surgeon who’s been a Vegan for most of his adult life. And at this writing he’s 104 years old.
Dr. Wareham is from Loma Linda, CA. One of the blue zones where people are known for their extended long life. Other blue zones include the island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea and the island of Okinawa.
What the people eat in these blue zones has been studied extensively because of the inhabitants long lives. Also, their lifestyle and other habits.
Veganism is the practice of eliminating meat, dairy and eggs from the diet, and all other animal products like seafood and honey. Some vegans also eliminate leather goods, clothing and furniture as an ethical decision to practice compassion toward other sentient beings.
