Getting Familiar with TD Ameritrade’s “Think or Swim”

For several years now I’ve been using the Scottrader platform for trading and investing in stocks.

I’ve dabbled with TD Ameritrade’s ‘Think or Swim’ platform but hated it because it seemed to have such a steep learning curve.

Well, this weekend was a three-day weekend which included Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

I decided I would take a self-crash course on Think or Swim and spend much of the weekend learning, tweaking and customizing this platform so that I could start using it when trading beings again on Tuesday.

I found out Think or Swim (TOS) wasn’t such a ‘beast’ after all. And that as soon as I tweaked it for my personal use and habits, I found I liked it even more than Scottrader!

I needed to wean myself off of Scottrader anyway, since TD Ameritrade has taken over Scottrade and that the whole website might transition to TD Ameritrade, and Scottrader would no longer exist.

But I’m glad, because I’m finding out that TOS is rich as far as features and tools go, and the charts are prettier, once they’re tweaked to my own standards.

Below is a screenshot of one of my TOS workspaces, this one featuring a 6 month chart. As you can see it’s pretty amazing once I tweaked it to my specifications.

And I can’t wait to start using it tomorrow.
