So, I’ve been trying to conserve by limiting my trips to the supermarket and bank. Trying to get everything done (as much as possible) in one trip. Of course there are the times when I have to drive my youngest son to-and-from school. And, the times I have to drive to-and-from the gigs.
Usually my drive time is divided up into 3 types:
- 1. Driving to and from work. (gigs)
- 2. Driving my youngest son to and from school.
- 3. Doing errands (grocery, refuel, bank, etc)
Gasoline and the Frugal Lifestyle
Of course there has been the occasional trip where I drive my oldest son back to UC Riverside. (He takes the train down to San Diego on some weekends)
And there are times when my wife and I go out to dinner or to the movies. And we’ve seriously limited our spending in that area.
Other than that, I don’t really need to drive anywhere else for now, and we’ve cut back a LOT on the out-of-town trips (Las Vegas, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, etc) just to save on the gasoline expenditures.
And right now that’s what I’m currently doing to cut down on the gas usage.
Down the street, (which is convenient) premium gasoline goes for around $3.50 a gallon. And the cheapest gas stations are in nearby Poway where premium is around $3.30 a gallon.
I have a big SUV (yes, I regret buying that but right now it’s paid for) which I drive only to-and-from the gigs because it’s the one vehicle we own that will transport my drums and other music equipment.
My wife (very fortunately) has a company car which is a Toyota Prius, and the company pays for her gasolline. So, that is a big savings to us.
I would ride my bike too if we didn’t live in such a secluded neighborhood that’s a bit far from everything.
I was reading a good news article on the Green Revolution on the BBC website. A recent poll said that 4 out of 5 people surveyed said they’d be willing to make sacrifices by changing their lifestyles to fight the Global Warming Crisis.
I’ve also been going to TreeHugger.com for more news and trends going on in the Green Revolution.
There is enough response around the world that many people ARE concerned about Global Warming. The big corporations and government are usually opposed to the idea of Global Warming, even going so far as saying it’s all a big Hoax. When scientists around the world are seeing the signs. Still, many other scientists are “stifled” or “silenced” somehow in their efforts to bring their findings to the people.
I personally feel that the big Auto Manufacturers have always had the capability to produce cars that run completely on electricity. It’s that big alliance between the big Oil Corporations and the Auto Manufacturers that keeps us using gasoline.
The Big Oil Companies Earned Unprecedented Profits
Remember, the big Oil Companies made unprecedented profits last year. Billions and billions of dollars profit! They are the ones who stand to lose out when everyone makes the switch to electric cars. Greed is the ongoing motivating factor. And we citizens are the ones who suffer and are so dependent on the gasoline to get around.
There SHOULD be more concern for our children. And the future generations that will have to endure what our generation had left behind for them.
And I for one am willing to do what I can (somehow) in order to make sure my children and their children will have a better world in which to live.
