I have been working with Cecil McBee, Jr. for most of the current decade, mainly with Big Daddy Orchestra and Grapevine.
Cecil is an exceptionally gifted bassist whom I admire and respect, and normally we totally “lock-in” to a groove, especially when it gets funky. It’s no surprise that Cecil is one of the busiest bassists in Southern California, doing gigs almost every night, and quite a few double headers. Cecil’s Dad is the legendary jazz bassist, Cecil McBee.
Cecil has performed with some big name artists, including Angela Bofill, jazz drummer Chico Hamilton, Chanti Moore, and jazz flutist Hubert Laws, just to name a few. And he has performed with some legendary local artists as well: Goldfish , Ella Ruth Piggie, Hollis Gentry, Fatburger, Fuzzy and the Bluesman, Ruby and the Redhots, Allan Phillips and more…
