Boy, I timed this one perfectly. It’s now raining in San Diego, and I deliberately held back watering the roses since 3/30. I have a drip irrigation going but it’s not timed. Given the extreme drought conditions we’ve had in California, managing water is essential. And what’s sad is the more we conserve, the Water Company raises the costs (well, because water can be scarce).
So, I’ve been attempting to get the roses more established and also more drought tolerant.
At my previous house, it was an old house that already had established red roses, and we never watered them! As a matter of fact, we neglected them and didn’t do much to them. Their condition wasn’t all that great because of the neglect, but they would still produce red roses that my wife would take for a bouquet.
Anyway, we’re supposed to rain on-and-off throughout the weekend, and I’m glad for the natural watering of the plants for free!
