Odds and Ends in August 2016, and Other Fantasies

I’ve been trying very hard to resist the temptation to write something political here. I just think that if we want to get everyone’s attention, we have to find common ground in stories and observations we can all relate to…

After all, I still believe and practice the philosophy of Zen simplicity.

And one thing I will share that is somewhat political, is that I disagree with what Donald Trump has to say about Ego.

Trump Quotes on Ego

“Show me someone without an ego, and I’ll show you a loser –having a healthy ego, or high opinion of yourself, is a real positive in life!”Donald Trump

“I’ve never once in my life known a person who was successful who didn’t have a big ego. Ego’s not a bad thing.”Donald Trump

I feel that Donald Trump equates confidence and self-esteem with Ego. And I think you can still be humble and show humility while exhibiting traits of self-confidence and self-esteem.

But, this is all a matter of opinion, although my belief is that a presidential candidate running for the highest office in the land has to have moral fiber and obligation, as well as fortitude and self-confidence to handle the job. In addition—and I believe this is the most important thing—you have to have practical knowledge and first hand experience. And I think the difference is that Hillary Clinton has had years of public service experience as First Lady in Arkansas, First Lady of the U.S., as a New York Senator and Secretary of State.

Oh, The Politics!

Whenever I apply for a job, they don’t hire you based on your inspiring commitment and promises, but on your actual on-the-job experience that qualifies you for the position! Of course, they want inspiring commitment and promises to do the job in addition to the on-the-job experience.

I think this is purely logical to me.

Anyway, enough about anything related to politics. I truly am saddened that it’s politics that divides a nation, that categorizes us from others when we are all individual people with individual traits and personalities, strengths and weaknesses.

Focusing on Peace and Quietude

I think it’s essential to live a quiet and peaceful life. There are times when the hustle and bustle is exciting, and there are times when it can get you down.

It’s important to have a balance of both, but the times of peace and quiet are very essential and can not be ignored.

Right now I’m listening to some quiet Zen music while I type all this.

The weather is hot and naturally it’s the height of Summer in August.

I live for the moment where Zen moments exist.

It’s the only way to find true peace and solitude.

It just helps one find balance along the path…
