What is Optimal Health? And are We Trying to Get There?

What is Optimal Health? And are We Trying to Get There?

What is optimal health? What is wellness for that matter?

I’m a drummer and pianist, a musician who practices my instruments daily and performs week in, week out doing gigs.

I’ve realized that I don’t perform well if my mind, body and spirit aren’t in optimal health. So, I try my best within my means to stay in optimal health. And it truly feels great when I’m playing a musical instrument and I’m in the best of health.

So thus, I am sort of a health nut, always trying out the latest smoothie recipe or vegan dishes.

I am vegan because I get much more energy out of a vegan diet than a meat eating diet. I’ve been on both sides so I know the difference, and the vegan diet wins hands down as far as energy goes.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with healthy carbs. It’s the fuel our bodies need.

Health is the level of functional and metabolic efficiency of a living organism. In humans it is the ability of individuals or communities to adapt and self-manage when facing physical, mental, psychological and social changes with environment.Wikipedia

Granted, much of the foods out there has been marginalized in some way. I’m checking out my daily Cron-o-meter readings and I just can’t get the ideal consumption of nutrients unless I take a multivitamin, and these days they have multivitamins for raw foodists, vegans and everyone else.

I think it has something to do with the agricultural industry, the soil, and how we’ve been depleting the soil because of massive farming. The soil could be better, but meanwhile, we need multivitamins and check our daily intake of nutrients.

The thing about exercise?

Well, if you eat a mostly whole food, organic vegan diet, it automatically gives you the energy you need to start doing things. I’ve been a meat eater before and it was really hard to get things going compared to now. I usually wake up before the alarm clock. But, I usually jump out of bed and start my day. In my meat eating days it was very hard for me to get out of bed.

Anyway, optimal health is what we all are trying to achieve or maintain. Without our health we really haven’t got anything. It’s that vital and important to all of us.

As one gets older, it becomes more of a factor in staying healthy.

For me, this is my daily goal. And, yes it takes daily work to stay in optimal health. And it’s all about balancing our daily lives… extremes can get one hurt or injured. The middle ground, just like in the Buddhist teachings seems to always be the best philosophy in a lot of things we do.
