Every morning I make a smoothie for breakfast.
Sometimes I make a “green smoothie”, but most of the time it’s a “raw cacao smoothie”.
I always use bananas in my smoothies.
Now, there has been a lot of debate on whether organic produce is superior to non-organic produce, and whether the higher cost is justified.
Organic Gardening methods are different from Conventional Gardening methods. But this post is not about debating the differences between these two Gardening Methods, but let’s just say that the Organic Gardening method is a bit more costly because of the methods used. And the Conventional method is to grow things at the cheapest, most economically way to maximize profits. And this may not translate to a healthier food!
I wanted to point out two things that swayed me towards Organic Produce.
- 1. The Taste. Especially when I have grown my own vegetables organically in the garden, I can REALLY taste the difference. Plus, the fact that you are picking the vegetables right away and immediately bringing them to the dinner table; it’s going to be the freshest.
But, I’ve been eating both organic and non-organic bananas for quite some time.
I CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE IN TASTE!
The organic bananas always taste better than the non-organic bananas! Yes, people can say I’m imagining it, but it’s my taste buds that are analyzing the difference and if you’ve done this for quite some time I think that the difference is apparent.
- 2. Feeling Healthier. I actually feel healthier when I’ve eaten organic bananas, and any organic produce for that matter. Again, am I imagining this?
Well, I’m a musician who plays drums for 3 to 4 hours at a time. Sometimes more. I know that when I haven’t eaten a nice healthy meal, then I feel sluggish and not as alert. And I feel like I’m struggling through the gig!
When I eat healthy organic produce, especially a “green smoothie”, I feel great… amazing, even.
I’ve gone back and forth between eating super healthy organic foods and eating junk and processed foods… so I truly know the differences in my performance. If I can tell the difference in my musical performances when eating organic and non-organic foods, surely there must be something to this.
Or do you think I’m just imagining it?
If you study the organic methods of farming, I think you can clearly see the superior care taken in growing organic produce. And organic gardening nurtures the soil rather than deplete it. There is more care to the whole process.
All I know is that whenever I buy the non-organic bananas, it just doesn’t do anything for me, and I end up going back to the organic bananas for better taste and to feel healthier.
And, I think that’s the bottom line!
I mean, who doesn’t want to feel healthier and have more energy?
If you are criticizing organic produce and haven’t done the research and taste tests yourself, then you really can’t say anything unless you do your own testing (and tasting)!
And you really can’t tell the difference between organic and non-organic unless you spend a fair amount of time comparing the difference, and not just assume there IS no difference other than the cost.
