Letterman Was Stood Up By McCain…

    Thursday, September 25th, 2008

So, Letterman felt he was stood up by John McCain and he lets TV viewers know it.

    Letterman Quotes:

When ya call up… and ya call up at the last minute to cancel a show… ladies and gentlemen, that’s starting to smell.

This is not the John McCain I know, by God. It makes me believe something’s gone haywire with the campaign.

Somebody [must've] said: “Blow Letterman off, he’s a lightweight.”

This is not the way a tested hero behaves… somebody’s putting something in his Metamucil.

Update: Lettermen Keeps Up Assault On McCain

The comic was unhappy when McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric instead of him Wednesday — and even more perturbed to learn that McCain didn’t leave New York until Thursday.

Noting that McCain wanted to postpone Friday’s first debate with Barack Obama, Letterman said running mate Sarah Palin wanted to put off her debate with Democrat Joe Biden until after Election Day.

Letterman said McCain taking Palin to meet world leaders at the United Nations was like “take-your-daughter-to-work day.”

David Blaine’s ‘Dive of Death’ a Sham?

    Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I was able to catch the final moment last night on television. And frankly, I was a bit confused and unimpressed. Perhaps there was a malfunction in this latest stunt? After all, David Blaine is an illusionist and magician, and a person who likes to test the limits of human endurance…

playing with coins - 3[ This entry is my contribution to the Rice Bowl Journals Collaboration Project for September ]

As I look at my little coin collection of pennies, nickels and dimes, I’m thinking…

So, our own government is planning to bail out those big investment banking firms to the tune of $700 billion dollars, maybe more.

    Hello, Good-bye…

birds flying southSo, I just finished a nice jog-walk routine around the neighborhood. Lots of hills, so I get a really good workout with lots of varying amounts of resistance training. About 40 minutes, 6-7 times a week. Sometimes I do an easy 30 minutes, sometimes I do a full hour.

Anyway, when I meet fellow walkers/joggers/runners along the way I always say “hello”. Sometimes people tend to ignore me, others say “hello” back.

tom_tomYahoo wants everyone to wear purple! I don’t look good in purple!

My wife and I moved our college son back to dorm life at UC Riverside. He’s in a brand new apartment complex that features an awesome computer lab with a whole bunch of new computers with flat screen monitors… looks very hi-tech like it’s the command center for the FBI or something. And the laundry room looks great too… new washers and dryers. Everything looks so new. So, he’s in an apartment with 3 other students, each have their own rooms for privacy. They have a living room and a kitchen area. Very nice! But, expensive.

“You know, you remind me of someone…”

fey mccainHehe… now this is very interesting… and proof that McCain met Tina Fey before meeting Sarah Palin.

Apparently, John McCain did a photo shoot with Tina Fey that became the front cover of the October 2004 Life Magazine issue. Perhaps McCain experienced “deja vu” when he met Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for the first time this year and said, “Yep, she’s the one!”

    Hmm….

Anyway, congrats go to Tiny Fey for winning all those Emmys for 30 Rock.

A Quote From “The Forbidden Kingdom”

    Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I watched The Forbidden Kingdom on DVD recently and it was a good movie. So, there was this quote from the movie that stuck with me. I don’t remember the exact quote, but it went something like this:

Music is a connection between Earth and Heaven…

And in many ways, the quote rings true, though I would modify it a little bit because there are all kinds of music out there… I would say:

Music, in its purest, artistic form, that uplifts the soul to greater heights, and is something which comes straight from the heart, is a true connection between Heaven and Earth.

Does that sound better? I think it’s general enough to refer to all types of music in this world. I feel that if music is pure and true, and has integrity, and uplifts and inspires… then it is truly sublime…

Radical Bailout Plan Has A Jawdropping Price Tag

WASHINGTON - Struggling to stave off financial catastrophe, the Bush administration on Friday laid out a radical bailout plan with a jawdropping price tag — a takeover of a half-trillion dollars or more in worthless mortgages and other bad debt held by tottering institutions.

    Dear President Bush,

Since you’re administration is planning to bail out some of the biggest investment firms on Wall Street to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars because suddenly, many of them are going bankrupt… well, I ask you… could you spare a few hundred thousand dollars so you can help me pay off my mortgage loan?

I’m sure it would be a very minor inconvenience, and with the extra money I’ll save (not having to make that BIG mortgage payment every month) I could put that money back into the economy as a devoted, conscientious consumer.

Thank you in advance, and God Bless America!

    Sincerely,
    A Patriotic Homeowner

P.S. - Can you throw in a few thousand more for a flat screen TV?
