Paranormal Mashup: Things I’ve Experienced Over The Years

Over the years, I’ve had what might be considered several paranormal experiences.

But to this day, I have remained skeptical, yet open to the possibility that there is much more out there than what our 5 senses can perceive.

Of course, if you believe in God and the afterlife, then you should be open to the spirit world and things beyond our ken. But, you might be open to other paranormal aspects such as clairvoyance, e.s.p., the occult, or deja vu.

If you are an atheist and proud of it, you might consider that your 5 senses (or that extra 6th sense) doesn’t really perceive much of the paranormal. In that case, better for you.

But the bottom line is that people all over the world and through the centuries of time have reported experiencing the same (or similar) types of occurrences.

Surely, there has to be some connection here.

Anyway, getting down to business.

I’ve compiled a list of experiences that have happened to me and during some of these so-called paranormal experiences, I was with someone who acknowledged that they experienced the same things. Actually, there maybe one or two people who wouldn’t want to even acknowledge what happened or, simply don’t want to talk about it.

Room 427

Room 427 – Imagine awakening in the middle of the night, from a nightmare in which you were in a specific hotel room, and paranormal activity had been happening. You feel compelled to “google” Room 427, and lo and behold, there is actually a Room 427 that is haunted in an actual hotel in Texas!

The Vanishing Woman at Starbucks

The Vanishing Woman at Starbucks – I was a touring musician waiting to perform, waiting at a Starbucks across the street from the venue in L.A. and in walks an old lady that looked to be 100 years old. No one else notices her except for us three musicians sipping our coffee. Was there something in our mochas? Or did we really experience something so strange that it would stay with us for a very long time.

The Roosevelt Hotel

The Roosevelt Hotel – It’s strange. I never actually experienced anything paranormal here. But the place felt very eerie and the air seemed so thick you could cut it with a knife. I performed at a Wedding Reception here in the grand ballroom on the first floor. That whole evening I just had this weird eerie feeling. And supposedly you could see Marilyn Monroe’s ghost in the mirror in the lobby. I never did, but the overall feeling there was very strange.

The Hollywood Athletic Club

The Hollywood Athletic Club – Built around 1925, many movie stars and celebrities from a bygone era had been here. The place was quite old when I first went here. I never got a good feeling here and there were “cold spots” in the upstairs hallways. Another experience was when I was heading into the men’s restroom on the second floor. The hair on the back of my neck stood up on end, and I felt the air had an electricity that seemed unsettling. I quickly turned around. And going to the restroom on the first floor, the guy next to me asked me if I had smelled the thick insense smell burning in the room. I said “yes”. It was thick and heavy, yet there was no incense in the room.

The Queen Mary

The Queen Mary – Everyone knows by now that The Queen Mary is haunted. At least that’s the reputation it has received over the years. Aside from the cold spots, the general uneasy feeling, and the blood curdling scream some of us heard in the back part of the ship near the engine room, I haven’t really seen any apparitions.

Flowers and Playing the Piano

Just some months ago, I was all alone playing the piano at night, when I suddenly smelled a strong scent of gardenias. Of course, there were no gardenias in the house at the time, and the scent was so strong as if the flowers were right in front of my nose. It just so happened that I was playing my mother-in-law’s favorite song on the piano, “Recuerdos”. There is a large painting of my mother-in-law behind me and I instinctively turned around and looked at her painting. She died many years ago after a long battle with breast cancer.

Smelling Candles in the Garage

I was going into the garage one night, when I suddenly smelled the odor of burning candles. It was quite strong and I was walking around trying to find out where the source of the burning candles were. And, I even walked out into the middle of the street and I could still smell the burning candles as if it was right there in front of me. This was the day before my father-in-law’s birthday but in the Philippines it would actually be his birthday. My father-in-law was still alive at the time, but I was wondering if it was my mother-in-law paying a visit.

Flowers at a Funeral

I was in the Philippines visiting for the first time when I was 18 years old. While there, my grandfather (my Mother’s father) had passed away. It was almost as if he was waiting for us grandchildren from the U.S. to arrive. Anyway, in the province the casket with the dead body is placed in the living room. During a luncheon everyone smelled the strong scent of candles when there were no candles burning anywhere close by. One of the uncles say, “It’s your grandpa”. And, I subsequently freaked out.

The Grey Shadow Figure

6 months before my father-in-law passed away from pancreatic cancer, I drove into my driveway one night and quickly spotted a grey, shadowy figure of a man floating to my left and into some bushes. I reasoned that it was probably just my mind playing tricks on me, and something to do with the headlights and the trees in the front yard. One night my son told me the same thing happened to him one night, that he’d seen a shadowy grey figure moving into the bushes where it disappeared. I never told him about my experience, and he just told his experience out-of-the-blue and soon after it happened.

It made me more skeptical, yet open to the possibilities.

Deja Vu Experience and the Paratroopers

When I was a twelve-year old and in the boy scouts, I was at a Scout Jamboree in the middle of the Camp Pendleton desert. One afternoon I was close by my tent visiting a dry arroyo and spotted a large cargo-type plane. Then, one-by-one, paratroopers dropped out of the plane and it was at that moment that I had a deja vu experience. It was as if I had seen this seen before somewhere… and I was repeating it. This deja vu experience was so powerful that I still can envision it in my mind as if I am still there at that moment.

The Young Woman with the Golden Aura

I’ve heard much about people being able to see auras, in plants, animals and people. But for most of my life I’d been eluded to that experience, until just a few years ago. I was at a Linens and Things store and I was just standing around waiting for my wife to pay for her items, when I saw a young woman with a glowing golden aura. Story here.

Night Terrors and Old Hag Syndrome

This experience has since been debunked as a sleep paralysis that occurs to about 15% of the population at one time or another, and involves waking up and feeling pinned down and not able to move. And, one has a hard time breathing. Many experts say this is Sleep Paralysis, and many times people will say it feels like a malevolent force is weighing down on them. And sometimes people visualize some dark shadow or figure. This has happened to me once, but I thought I would include it because it felt to me like it was some malevolent presence pressing down on me, and it seemed like there was a dark force causing it.

Technically, this still might be classified as a paranormal, or beyond normal experience. It definitely doesn’t happen all the time.

These are just a few of the so-called paranormal experiences I’ve had over the years. Of course, the most profound was the vanishing woman at Starbucks. Because she looked so real, like a living person, and for three of us having witnessed her disappearance in that Starbucks restroom. It has since left me very confused yet open to the the possibilities of phenomena that must be happening beyond our senses.
