Piano Notes: Continuing Studies in Classical Music, Plus Everything Else

Yamaha Grand Piano

This is a set of random piano notes.

I just cleaned my grand piano, so it is now sparkly, shiny clean. But, I know it’s just going to get dirty in a couple of days. So, I have my work cut out for me to maintain its clean look.

As far as the Mozart is concerned, I continue to practice the Mozart Sonata in C, and although I’m amazed that young children can perform this as evidenced by various YouTube videos, it’s really harder than it sounds, technique-wise. And, it’s just an ongoing endeavor to continue playing this, and perfecting it. At least for me.

Beethoven? I’d like to finally learn the complete 14th Sonata “Moonlight”, instead of just barely playing the famous first movement. And the rest of the sonata is intense. Well, one of my life’s goals, y’all.

J.S. Bach? I’m currently working on the first two-part invention in C by Johann Sebastian Bach. And, right now I’m just practicing this very slowly, and I’m still reading the music so it’s not memorized.

Chopin? I know nothing except a simplified version of his Nocturne No. 9 in Eb (well, I do it in C).

And I perform various Classical pieces that are improvised and made up as I go along.

In fact, my middle name is improvisation. I admit I’m really good at making sh*t up. lol

But, there’s also the standards, plus Scott Joplin piano rags.

It never ends. I need to build up my repertoire.
