RBJ Meetup… Seaport Village, Edgewater Grill

I confess that I perceive myself as a shy person.

Not only am I shy, I’m an introvert.

The only thing that has given me solace is the fact that Michael Jackson (God rest his soul) had claimed to be extremely shy when not onstage. I’m kind of like that. I feel more confidence in musical situations, but then again… it depends. After all these years I’m still a shy individual.

But, I think that’s why I’m much more comfortable writing than talking… However, I am a good listener.

That said, I mustered up the courage to meet with fellow RBJer Manny88131 and his lovely wife at Seaport Village for lunch.

Seaport Village

RBJ Meetup Seaport Village, San Diego, CA

Seaport Village is one of the so-called “tourist spots” in San Diego. It’s just down the street from the Convention Center, where they have the annual Comic-Con Convention.

It was a gorgeous day for the meetup. Not a cloud in the sky from what I remember. And the whether was sunny but with a mild breeze and somewhere in the 70s. Typically, downtown near the San Diego bay can be quite overcast.

This is the first time I’ve eaten at Edgewater Grill, but the place is located right there on the bay. The only thing separating the restaurant from the water was the “boardwalk”. And it was a nice day so tourists seemed to be strolling along and enjoying the weather.

Raw-Vegan Lunch

Egdewater Grill is a nice waterfront restaurant with great views of San Diego Bay from the Coronado Bay Bridge to Shelter Island and beyond. The ambience is nice with a Spanish-Colonial yet sligthly “industrial” feel (for lack of a better description at the moment). We had a nice table in a corner with great views of the bay and we could watch the people go by.

I believe Manny ordered a nice Clam Chowder with Seafood Salad (which was humongous, btw) and his wife ordered a Chicken Sandwich. I ordered their Vegetarian sandwich with tomato, onion, lettuce and avocado on a very nice bread, minus the mayo and cheese and added dijon mustard. Later I realized there were fries with my sandwich, and I ended up eating them… but at least I mostly had a raw-vegan meal.

All Along The Waterfront

I can not stress how nice it was yesterday! I mean, I kept telling Manny and his wife that this was a nice sunny day here, compared to all the gloomy weather we’ve been having pretty much throughout the Summer so far. Very disappointing. But like I said, yesterday was really nice.

Photos By The Bay

My photography skillz weren’t my best here. For one, I had recently read that it’s always best to use flash during people photography, even during the day. And this is one good reason. Manny’s wife was obscured by Manny’s shadow. This wouldn’t have happened if I had turned the flash on! Sorry, Manny and Manny’s wife.

A Head The Size of a Bowling Ball

Then I tried taking a picture while holding the camera towards us because there wasn’t anyone to take our picture at the time. And my head looked like it was the size of a bowling ball. Ugh. But at least we took some pix. And, some lessons were learned. I need to practice on my people photography skillz. But I’m good at landscapes and inanimate objects.

A Nice RBJ Meetup

Then, it was time to leave Seaport Village. And it was really nice to finally meetup with Manny and his wife. We had some great talks and I think we learned a lot more about each other. And, next month Manny and his wife are heading over to the Philippines for a vacation… how exciting. I miss The Philippines. And I hope he gets the chance to meetup with all the Manila RBJers there.

Mona Lisa Smile

Mona Lisa Italian Foods

On the way home from the meetup, something caught my eye… an eatery called Mona Lisa Italian Foods. And, perhaps it was a subconscious notion that I probably fumbled those Seaport Village pictures, I suddenly felt the need to take another picture. And this is what I took. Notice the signs that say, “Mona Lisa Customers Only”.

Anyway, maybe this will be the place for the next RBJ Meetup!

The Question

When you’re alone and life is making you lonely you can always go… ???
