Signs of Virtue: A Collection of Inspirational Poetry (1st Edition)

It is done!

I’ve been laboring over this eBook project for the longest time.

Well, the collection of poetry goes back to my high school days, back in Creative Writing class when I created The Adonical Scriptures of Eastern Philosophy, which was more a collection of works by great Eastern sages.

But, I suppose I’m glad this first edition is done. And I’ve made it available to everyone to download over here.

. . . .

If You Build It, Will They Come?

So, I’m finding out that it’s not a matter of, “if you build it, they will come”… and I completely understand that marketing and publicity is a big part of a successful book launch. And, alas… I am not the best marketing and publicity person.

But, the problem with offering something for a price, is that of reputation. I am virtually an unknown author, but I would like my poetic works to be published. On the Internet, one actually publishes their writings once they are made available online. How to market it, and successfully get the word out to the masses… that is another story.

But I will try my best to advertise the new ebook and get the word out. It’s available for FREE for everyone to read and evaluate. If you feel this ebook is worth the time and effort I’ve put into it, then by all means, do head on over to my ebook page and officially buy it.

A Bit of History

This ebook represents a collection, and a culmination of poetic efforts that have been written over the course of a few decades. Not all my works are represented here. But, I feel these are some of my strongest poems to share with everyone at this point in time. I have more, but I’m not sure if I want to add more to a 2nd edition, or start another separate ebook.

Some of these poems were posted online in one form or another, BUT the poems included in my ebook have been re-edited and re-written, so they represent the more polished version of a given poem. I am open to re-writing my poems if I feel they need it. It’s all a process to me.

. . . .

Zen Musings

Like much of my writings on this blog, there is a Zen-like quality to the new ebook.

I’ve tried to utilize white space to effect, and paid close attention to the spacing of elements of each page. I tried my best within the parameters of working with the medium, but the idea is to create a feeling of space, emptiness, as described in much of the Zen teachings that I have read over the years.

. . . .

Photography

As an avid amateur photographer, I’ve included some of my favorite photos that I’ve taken over the past 10 years, much of it related to nature, and I tried to match photos with certain poems to hopefully enhance the imagery I was trying to convey.

At first I kept the images to the best quality available on PDF format, but I initially ended up with a 29 megabyte file, so I managed to reduce images (hopefully without a loss of clarity) to created a more manageable sized file at 4.3 megabytes. If you are reading this, please let me know how the photos look, if you get the chance to download the book.

. . . .

The Book’s Organization

Signs of Virtue is divided into 4(four) sections:

  • Lowlands
  • Longing
  • Heart
  • Transcendence

Poems are organized to reflect a process of striving for enlightenment, the supreme goal of Zen. So, the sections of the book follow a logical progression toward the path to Transcendence.

The poems are not in chronological order as they had been written. But you can see the date a poem was written in the upper right hand corner of a poem’s first page.

So thus, poems were arranged meticulously within their proper sections, and hopefully have the proper effect in their order within each section.

. . . .

At Long Last… Closure!

For some reason, it has taken me (literally) a few years to get this project finished. I don’t know why… other than Life… and other projects that (at the time) kept me pre-occupied. So, I was extremely happy to have finally finished the ebook!

And the fact that, the selected poems included, go back many years, it just seemed like it was long overdue. I’d been told by a few people that getting poetry published nowadays is next to impossible. But, with ebooks, I suppose anything is possible as far as getting oneself published goes. So, in essence, I am self-published!

But, I am actively (already) working on the 2nd edition!

If you’ve downloaded my ebook, I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read a somewhat reclusive, hidden part of my world… welcome to it, and I hope you enjoy the ebook!
