The Big Bang Theory was the top-rated show on Thursdays for the fourth week in a row, beating out American Idol in its time slot in the month of February! As a matter of fact, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and Two and a Half Men all beat out American Idol in February.
Currently in its 6th Season, The Big Bang Theory has reached an ever wider audience, thanks to continued syndication on the WB and TBS television networks. TBBT is currently No. 1 in the syndicated ratings.
In early 2011 [The Big Bang Theory] was renewed for a further three seasons, taking it through to its seventh season in 2013/14.
Created by Executive Producers/Writers Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, the show has slowly gained momentum over the years. As a matter-of-fact, TBBT has gained momentum each year thanks to social media sites like Twitter. Whereas a reality show like American Idol is still a massively popular show and cultural phenomenon, getting lots of tweets about one singer or another, or recapping judges comments, people tweet about TBBT by simply saying they are watching the show.
Chuck Lorre has continued to produce and write for The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, and Mike and Molly concurrently, so he’s a busy guy these days. I think it’s safe to say that he’s tapped into a winning formula for the sitcoms he writes and produces, given that they have been some of the most popular shows in television.
