More Thoughts on a High Carb Diet for Performance and Athleticism

It took me many years to realize this: Carbs = Energy!

But, the current dietary establishment wants everyone to be on a low-carb, high protein diet!

What does this tell me?

The Meat and Dairy Industries are at it again, saying that carbs are bad for you and cause weight gain. But if you’re on a low-carb, high protein diet, meaning that you eat more high protein foods like dairy products, red meat, chicken, seafood and pork, that you’re going to lose weight.

The problem is, that animal products are high in dietary saturated fat and cholesterol.

This isn’t fake news, people!

Why are so many people getting heart attacks and strokes, and colon cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S.?

Because, we are bombarded with meat and dairy products everyday, and the mass media brainwashing continues and has continued for more than a century.

In real Paleo times, people had to hunt for their animal meats. So it was a special treat and something people didn’t get a chance to eat at every meal. Simply because they had to hunt or catch their meat, whereas now, we can go into any supermarket and buy as much animal foods as we want; to the point where we are eating too much and causing chronic illness throughout the population.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. All plant foods contain protein and amino acids, the building blocks of muscle and organ tissue.

And once again, the horse comes to mind. Because horses are typically vegan: they eat oats, grains, grass, fruits. And they are sturdy, strong, beautiful and muscular creatures!

The cows that we eat in the form of red meat are fed grass and grains as well, but their muscles are big and juicy for meat eaters!

But, carbs and a plant-based diet will give you the best ratio of carbs-to-protein, with less saturated fat!

I’m a drummer, and I’ve been through low carb, high protein diets before. Four times, in fact.

  • The Atkins Diet
  • The Zone Diet
  • The Paleo Diet
  • The South Beach Diet

And I was seriously dedicated to these diets! But usually around the 6th month, I either feel ill or just not right as far as my performances go as a musician and athlete.

You need good quality carbs that provide energy, yet also provide the nutrients, protein and fiber your body needs in order to survive.

Of course, stay away from simple carbohydrates, like white sugar, white flour, white bread!

Vegetables contain carbs in them as well as other essential nutrients, protein and amino acids.

Carbs. You need the fuel for long workouts. And for me, drumming from 2-4 hours at each gig, along with the loading and unloading of my musical equipment, setting up and tearing down… I burn a LOT of calories… at times around 4,400 calories in a day.

I need carbs to give me the energy to get through each gig!

And imagine if you are an athlete, you have to ask yourself are you getting enough carbs? You’ll get enough protein if you eat enough carbs.
