Thursday, September 27, 2018: What Happened to September Swoon and Other Stories

September Swoon and Other Stories…

DOW +156.37—-NASDAQ +72.87—-SP500 +16.63—-NYSE +45.17

Portfolio Leaders: AMZN, AAPL, BA
Portfolio Laggards: BPT

Right now the stock market is in rally mode, when it tanked yesterday right after The Fed did a rate hike of 0.25%. Actually, the market did a delayed reaction and truly tanked in the final hour of trading yesterday.

Do I smell the makings of a short-term strategy for next time The Fed does a rate hike?

Sure, why not?

Here would be the plan… wait till the markets tank after The Fed announces the next rate hike.

Swoop down and scoop up some stocks at the lower price.

The following day (if the markets react like this morning with a big rally) sell your short-term stock positions at a profit.

Key stocks to look for?

Check out AMZN, which this morning is currently up +$34 per share. And AAPL rose up to around $5 per share. GOOG rose +$18 per share.

Rinse and repeat for the next rate hike. Voila!

As far as September Swoon is concerned, what happened?

Supposedly, and historically, September is the worse month for stocks.

But, the stock market has made its stand and survived. And now someone mentioned October being a turbulent month.

From personal experience, the months leading up to the end of the year should be good rally months. What to watch out for is late January, like this year, the stock market made a huge correction right after the President’s SOTU address (yes, I’ve repeated this many times and we should all commit it to memory). It could be another turning point in 2019, so watch out!

This Morning’s Leaders

Amazon (AMZN)

Amazon’s stock rose above $2k again, and one analyst gave it a target price of $2525.

Apple (AAPL)

I think AAPL is the most shorted stock ever. I mean, with a $1 trillion dollar market cap, you’d think the stock would be performing like AMZN at +$2k. Something’s going on, and Warren Buffett knows because he’s been buying up millions of shares of AAPL. In the long term the stock is a cash cow.

Boeing (BA)

This is my biggest portfolio gainer, which surpassed the 100% profit mark, went down below 90% and is slowly but surely get back to that 100% market once again.
