  • The Dreams of a Wannabe Pianist

The Dreams of a Wannabe Pianist I never consider myself a ‘real’ pianist. I dunno, maybe it’s a lack of self-confidence. Maybe it’s just that I listen to concert pianists and jazz pianists who are at the upper echelons of performance. I mean, I have an above-average ear and

Piano Phantasies in the Key of G Major

yesterday’s piano gig at memory care was quite surreal… one of the ladies said ‘i love you’… and when i was finished another lady asked, ‘are you going to start soon?’ one of the men yelled out, ‘he’s already done!’

i did the Beethoven Sonata Pathetique 2nd movement to end the performance, but they wanted more… so i officially ended with ‘take me out to the ballgame’, which is always a great sing-a-long tune.

Today’s post focuses on piano performance and practicing.

Lately, I’ve been practicing the first part of the second movement of Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata. I’m not a Classically trained pianist, and I’ve been learning some Classical pieces on my own. I do have a good ear, so I’m just trying to learn them the best I can by ear.

Acoustic Drums + Electronic Drums = Fun!

Not much to report here when it’s a busy week of gigging.

So this week I have gigs from Wednesday through Sunday, one piano gig and the remainder are drumming gigs.

Speaking of drumming gigs… I think the groups I perform in are getting spoiled with the triggers, which allow me to play both acoustic drums and electronic drums at the same time.

    Happiness is a Struggling Musician

As a musician, I’ve had maybe one close call with “big time” success, and it was a very enriching experience, and also disappointing as well.

It’s a heartbreaker when you think you’re riding a big wave of success, only for the bandleader to call you one day to let you go. Supposedly, I was replaced by another drummer just before this big success would happen.

    Thoughts on Beethoven’s ‘Pathetique Sonata’

The more I listen and become better acquainted with Beethoven’s epic Sonata No. 8 ‘Pathetique Sonata’, the more I can feel the emotional impact that this music conveys.

I’m currently working on the 2nd movement again, to really get it down. Of course, I don’t have the chops to handle the 1st and 3rd movements, but one day hope to get it down.
