Tuesday, October 30, 2018: Day Trading and the Volatility Index

The Volatility Index and Other Stories

DOW +204.70—-NASDAQ +67.34—-SP500 +14.75—-NYSE +82.21

Portfolio Leaders: BA, T, ISRG
Portfolio Laggards: BPT

Basically, the VIX or Volatility Index will go up when the Stock Market goes down, so ETFs like VXX and TVIX have been great for trading during these times.

And these VIX ETFs are highly volatile, so they’re great for capturing the intraday trends for profits.

Day Trading

I’ve had to hone my Day Trading chops this month in October, something I’ve resisted for a very long time. But I’ve found out that I can understand the intraday volatility of certain stocks. And with the help of a couple of Day Trading and Scalping Charts, I’ve managed to developed a simple system for capturing some modest profits in the intraday.

Of course, Day Trading can be:

1. Very Risky. You have to invest in big positions to get a substantial profit for the day

2. Labor Intensive, Initially. You need knowledge to understand and know the patterns of certain selected stocks. But on the plus side, you can get a substantial profit within the first 30 minutes of the trading session.

3. Nerve Wracking. Depending on your stress tolerance, you have to have nerves of steel, patience, and just knowing when and how to get in and out of stocks in order to profit.
