A Rally of Sorts…

DOW +75.97—-NASDAQ -26.84—-SP500 +4.85—-NYSE +12.05

Portfolio Leaders: BA, CAT, T
Portfolio Laggards: SHOP, ISRG, AMZN

There was a better rally earlier, and now it’s dissipating. Industrial like BA and CAT rallied back a bit this morning. Tech stocks are lower this morning. GOOG has really fallen.

1. If you’re a Day Trader (which I’m really not), most of the action seems to be in the first couple of hours of the trading session. Well, much of the action is in the first 30 minutes to an hour.

2. Overall, the stock market tends to taper off toward the end of the day.

3. You definitely need a core of big winners to hold on for the long haul, and that would include stocks that provide nice dividends to help the portfolio grow.

4. It really seems like you can’t take advantage of stock fluctuations unless you invest 5K in a stock position. Case in point, I do have one account that started out with $500, and I’ve had this account for years. It has grown to $830.

5. It’s important to have a trading platform that spans multiple monitors. I’m in the process of doing this and it’ll make my trading much easier, since I’m currently having to switch desktops (going back and forth) on my Macbook Pro.

6. Having a trading platform of at least 3 monitors will make trading easier, although one has to get used to the multiple screens. It can be overwhelming, I suppose.

7. I really do need to check out charts in the following time frames: Intraday, 5-10 day, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year and 3 year charts.

Today’s Portfolio Leaders

AT&T (T)

Morgan Stanley recently upgraded this stock to Buy (from Hold). And, I’m holding for the long run and the dividends. I’m slightly in the red on this one, even though the stock is performing better today.

Boeing (BA)

Boeing seems to be bouncing back a bit from the Trade Threats that might affect industrial stocks. Top economists are criticizing Trump’s crude and archaic trade threats, which seem out-of-touch with a global economy that is more interconnected than Trump realizes.

B&G Foods (BGS)

B&G Foods just jumped into the top three leaders just now, so I’m adding this one to my top three portfolio leaders. As I mentioned before, I’m diversifying by getting more into Food Industries. Next up might be Solar… TSLA, maybe?
