Yuja Wang: Solo Piano Playing Petruschka

Yuja Wang – Three Movements from Petrushka

I’ve been following the works of concert pianist Yuja Wang, and I find her rendition and piano arrangement of Petrushka to be out-of-this-world!

Her execution is phenomenal and her technique flawless. She pays proper homage to Stravinsky in just about every detail of her piano performance.

The liveliness of her performance is unmistakeable. And she’s definitely a young concert pianist who’s making her mark in the world of Classical Music.

You can watch the live performance below:

Stravinsky’s Petrushka

I’ve been a big fan of Stravinsky’s ballet suites ever since my college days, and Petrushka’s my big favorite of the three ballet suites, even more so than Les Sacre Du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) and the Firebird Suite.
Yes, that is correct.

I just love the variety of dynamics and rhythmic complexities in Petruschka, and over all that, the playfulness of the music. As well as the story behind the music, being about a marionette that comes to Life.
