My drumming on sing sing sing

A nice YouTube version of Big Time Operator’s version of Sing Sing Sing, featuring myself on drum solos.

days with Big time operator

I had the golden opportunity to perform with the Neo-Swing Big Band… Big Time Operator!

Despite the negativity that happened at the end of my stint with the band, I have no ill feelings nor regrets… it was a wild and fun ride.

Having said that, one of my favorite memories with the band was performing Gene Krupa’s legendary drum solo, note for note… then featuring a second half of the solo which was my own, with a compelling clarinet solo by Marc Rosen. Ah, the memories.

It was a very nice 3 year stint, touring the country doing a SouthWest tour, a West Coast tour, and opportunities to perform at Disneyland in Anaheim and Disney World in Orlando, Florida. And we got to perform at various hotel & casinos in Las Vegas.

End of the world

The very first time I heard this song was as a cover done by a Filipino singer named Sahlee Quizon… this was back when I was a teenager.

I had no idea the original was sung by Skeeter Davis, and just remembered that the song was featured in the movie, Girl, Interrupted, starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie. A character named Daisy, played by Brittany Murphy, took her own life while this song was playing in the background.

Yes, it’s a pretty depressing song, but it’s a pretty song as well… but, I’m trying to branch out my repertoire into the Country genre. And, I’m working on developing my traditional country repertoire as these songs are easier for me to play on solo piano without having to sing the song.

So, another song added to the repertoire.

Songs from the ambient Field

This current album project has been on hold, as I go back and forth with the overall aspects of how I want the music to unfold.

For one, the ‘ambient’ feel needs to be established.

And, I’d been toying with the idea of including a standard… Hi Lili Hi Lo… the track has already been recorded… to include it or not? That is the question. So far, I’m 50/50 with regards to including it.

Sometimes, it’s good to have some counterpoint within the album, so that’s my reasoning behind including a standard.

I’ll try to include a temporary track listing soon… but, this is the ongoing (and next) project I’m currently working on and hopefully will have it out next month.

Stay tuned…
